Honda Beat is the world's first sports scooter equipped with water-cooled 2-cycle 50cc engine and dual halogen headlights.

The Honda FC50, also known as the Honda BEAT, was a 50cc scooter with robot-style design manufactured by Honda, released in December 1st 1983. It was produced mainly for the Japanese domestic market. Although both new and used models were exported from Japan, making it a fairly hard-to-find scooter. This motorcycle is equipped with a water-cooled 2-cycle 49cc engine with a maximum output of 7.2 horsepower that uses a compact hemispherical combustion chamber. In addition, a newly designed *V-TACS (variable torque amplification/exhaust system) that can switch between two stages of torque in the low and high rpm ranges is adopted. As a result, it achieves strength and smooth running.
The suspension is a full-scale telescopic type with a stabilizer attached to the front wheels, and a unit swing type for the rear wheels. In addition, oil dampers are installed on both the front and rear wheels. Comfortable driving is made possible by these full equipment.
The styling expresses the strength of the body, which is designed with a strong straight line, with a translucent cowling that has an excellent windproof effect, and a full-scale expansion chamber.
In terms of equipment, it is equipped with the world's first dual halogen headlight (18W x 2) on a 50cc class scooter. In addition, the world's first lightweight and compact MF (maintenance-free) battery is used for two-wheeled vehicles. As a result, there is no need to refill water, there is no risk of liquid leakage, and the low self-discharge makes it easy to start the cell after leaving it for a long time. In addition, the front wheel brakes are equipped with air intakes to improve the cooling effect and other features.
This beat is a model that was exhibited for reference at the 25th Tokyo Motor Show.

The exhaust device V-TACS, which can be said to be the greatest feature of this model, is a two-stage torque switching system that generates a maximum output of 7.2ps. Although the chamber contributes to the increase in torque in the low speed range, there is a weakness that the intake filling efficiency drops and the output reaches a plateau in the high speed range, so basically the driver manually operates on the left side of the step board. It is a mechanism to obtain high output by closing a certain pedal through a wire to close the exhaust path to the subchamber and using only the main chamber at high rotation.

For this reason, a tachometer that displays the low rpm range in white and the high rpm range in green is installed as standard equipment at 5,500 rpm.

There is a display called a variable power indicator in the meter, and the red lamp placed on the high output side line of the curve showing the two types of output characteristics, high and low, drawn on the board blinks in conjunction with the operation.

The operation timing was set at around 5,500 rpm, but it was introduced in magazines at that time that the following three patterns could be experienced.
